It’s not dead!
I bought a new house plant last week. An Earth Day present to myself.
Not really.
I happened to be at Lowes running errands and I can’t go to Lowes (or Home Depot) without scouring the plant section to see if they carry any fiddle leaf figs. They never do, but I’m determined to one day be the proud owner of one so I keep looking.
Anyway, I spotted this little guy all alone and decided to take him home. It’s an Alocasia Poly and (after getting it home) I’ve read that they are temperamental. That sucks.
It’ll probably be dead in a couple of months, but for now it’s been 8 days and counting and it’s still going strong. Wish me luck!

Brownstone Modern Garden
Recently featured in the NY Times, this modern garden designed by Susan Welti makes the most of limited space transforming this Brooklyn Brownstone’s backyard into a lush and private getaway. The garden is divided into three smaller sections making it feel much bigger than it actually is.
A long cedar boardwalk runs the length of the yard from the stairway at the back of the house to the garage.
This garden’s taken my infatuation for Russel Woodard chairs to a whole new level. Painting them red instead of the usual black or white? I love the bold choice!
True story: I once saw a pair of vintage Russel Woodard chairs on Craigslist for $50. For real!! The owner apparently didn’t know what they had. They were listed as something completely different – Eames I think. Obviously I wasn’t quick enough or this story would have started “I once scored a pair of vintage Russel Woodard chairs for and incredible $50 bucks!”
