Emergency Preparedness

livingroom

You know how some families practice fire drills or disaster evacuation? We practice getting the house ready for an emergency showing. We have our rolls and routines and we’re getting pretty good. We’re supposed to get at least a minimum of 24 hrs notice, but realtors in Beaufort don’t seem to respect that rule. We’ve had realtors call from outside the house wanting to come in for a showing. Seriously?? We try to maintain a clean house, but it’s not easy with a baby and a large dog. We had another showing last Friday that didn’t go quite as well. The client showed up a half hour early! They had to drive around the block a few times while we scrambled to get Ezra and Kenzie ready to leave after last minute tidying. Once we left on our walk they drove by and waved. Pretty embarrassing.

  1. Well, you have to be prepared. Good thinkin’. Selling a house is tough with little ones. I remember. I actually had people stop by and want to see it right then. The nerve. Your Legos costumes were great! I’d have never thought to do that. Hope you had a nice holiday.

  2. When we sold our last house, the people who ended up buying it were the people that were a half an hour early 🙂 I was not ready, dogs were still in the house with dust bunnies on the hardwood! I was mortified. Hope your home sells quickly.

  3. It was embarrassing, but I actually had an even more embarrassing house selling experience with our last house. Brad had already moved to SC so I was by myself. My realtor never called to let me know to expect them, but a gentleman stopped by our house late one evening with his realtor. I was already showered and in my pjs (no bra might I add) and in the middle of a late dinner. The guy bought the house, so I suppose the incredible awkwardness of sitting there in my pjs and eating my dinner while two strangers walked through my house was worth it 🙂 We’ve had a few investors interested in this house because of the location, so hopefully it will sell soon. I guess we aren’t in a terrible hurry as we haven’t even started construction on our next house.
